England-based watchmaker Linde Werdelin is one of those brands that continuously challenge our minds and imagination with new concepts and novel technologies. One of their most intriguing pieces is the Oktopus Moon Gold 3DTP Carbon watch, which is presented as both a dress watch and a sports timepiece.
With a highly angular geometric design, the case flaunts a gorgeous mix of carbon fiber and 18-kt rose gold which gives the watch a highly alluring dark luxury look. Linde Werdelin worked for years on developing the right technology for carbon fiber layering, with the purpose of creating a surface that would catch and reflect light in a beautifully subtle way, creating the illusion of depth.
That technology has finally been achieved and successfully implemented in this model, whose production is limited to only 59 pieces. The number is not random: 59 days is exactly how long the moon needs to complete two lunar cycles and, as the name of the watch suggests, the movement also includes a Moon Phase complication. Photorealistic images of Earth’s satellite move slowly across the dial in a beautiful display of fine horological engineering.
The watch has a 42-hour power reserve, with the movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The five-layer skeletonized dial was intelligently designed so that it can be at the same time visually dynamic and perfectly legible. The titanium hands and the main numerals – 3, 9 and 12 – have grey luminova coating for extra visibility. With a masculine 44mm-wide case, the watch sits comfortably on the wrist with an interchangeable rubber strap and DLC-coated titanium ardillion buckle.
