This private residence in Novigrad, Croatia is pretty much what dreams are made of. Called House Sperone, it was completed in 2014 after a design by Studio Metrocubo. The owner’s brief was pretty straightforward: a 5-star luxury holiday home that would take full advantage of its amazing location. Situated by the Adriatic Sea shore, the residence is built on a historic spot, which used to hold the old city’s wine cellars, hence its unique medieval allure.
The plot of the house and its architecture have been directly influenced by the existing city walls and by the surrounding buildings, which have led to a series of ingenious solutions for space maximization. Not wanting to disrupt the local historical architecture, the architects have managed to create a harmonious visual connection between the old buildings and the new one, the latter actually enhancing the first’s features.
Where the city walls were torn down, a new glass membrane was added to facilitate communication between interior and exterior spaces. On the southern side of the house, the old stone wall was naturally extended to form a stone façade for the new home.
The architects have managed to take full advantage of the amazing views by ensuring that every single room in the house would be oriented towards the sea or the historic walls. This single detail ensures a unique and wonderful ambiance throughout the home.
Spread over 4,768 square feet, House Sperone has got 4 bedrooms, a large living/dining/kitchen area, and even a wellness area with indoor swimming pool. The upper floor holds mainly the public and socialization areas, as well as a lovely terrace that seamlessly extends the living area outwards. All bedrooms are located on the ground floor, including the vast master bedroom with open bathroom, free-standing bathtub, and separate shower and rest rooms.
For intimate moments of meditation and relaxation, the wellness area, the infinity pool and the rooftop terrace are all excellent places to retreat to. But then again, with every room enjoying amazing view, this whole residence is actually a perfect place for unwinding.
